‘The Silly Season is here’ – It’s a time for celebration with friends and family! Lots of parties and Christmas lunches and New Year’s Eve dinners only end up with unwanted kilos if you are tempted to overindulge in the wrong foods. If you want to prevent the typical overeating at this time of year make some changes with my 8 smart tips to keep you on track this holiday season especially if you have done my natural HCG Diet.

  • Before you head out to the party have a small snack so when you arrive you are not starving and eating everything in sight.
  • The calories in all the fat-laden finger foods being passed around really add up fast so say no to any dough based or fried appetisers. Stick to finger foods of fresh fruit and vegetables and avoid the creamy dips, go for a fat-free sour cream or yoghurt with a splash of lemon juice.
  • Watch what you are drinking while chatting it up at a cocktail party. Some drinks are laden with calories so avoid all those creamy cocktails and   stick with low alcohol drinks or a soda with one shot of spirits and a twist of lemon or lime with lots of ice. Remember to toss back a glass of water in-between drinks for dehydration and your head will thank you for it in the morning!
  •   Add a sprinkle of chopped pecans and a hint of cinnamon to your sweet potatoes rather than fattening them up with lashings of butter.
  •  Choose the leanest cuts of meat like turkey or chicken and make sure you remove any excess fat before you wrap your lips around them.
  •  Skip any foods swimming in heavy and creamy sauces.
  •  Go for the filling, high fibre options like fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grain side dishes.
  • Sweet Treats – Go for a fresh plate of fruit with a dollop of ice-cream on top instead of a huge bowl of ice-cream with a dollop of fresh fruit on top! Did you know cherries have the fruity benefits of no fat, plenty of dietary fibre and a good mix of vitamins and minerals.

Remember if you avoid the fat-laden traps you can set aside calories for those non-negotiable treats like the odd ice-cream and your body and your heart will thank you at the end of the holiday season. And remember you can still have fun and enjoy your food without the fat!
